Assisi Retreat September 2020.

The historic hill town of Assisi, birthplace of St Francis, is situated in the province of Perugia in the Umbria region of Italy.  It is a beautiful medieval village, a place one can feel the typical spirit of the Saint of Assisi: mysticism, poetry, love and peace.

St Francis was born in 1181, he was christened Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone,  he grew up leading a privileged life as the son of a wealthy cloth merchant but he abandoned a life of luxury after hearing the voice of God, he is remembered for the many miracles, he was the patron saint of animals as St Francis saw animals as his brothers and sisters and prayed that God would work through him to help them.  Birds sometimes gathered while Francis spoke and listened to him.

He established the Franciscan Order of friars and the women’s order of the Poor Clare’s.

It is said that Assisi was a sacred site prior to St Francis, first dated the Temple of Minerva BC 1st century, the Temple was then completely restored many centuries later and dedicated to the Virgin Mary, queen of true wisdom. The temple then took the name of “Santa Maria sopra Minerva”.

Assisi is also on the Apollo St Michael Axis, the Dragon line from Skellig Michael on the west coast of Ireland, ending in Jerusalem Israel.

Come, join me as together we explore Assisi and the surrounding areas related to St Francis and St Clare and other mystical sites in Umbria. Your life will be enhanced as we discover the spirit of unknowing with the element of mystery through, walking in the footsteps of the saints, meditation, and more.
