The Aurora borealis or Northern lights is one of the most amazing shows nature can offer. As it lights up the night sky with its shifting waterfall of colour.Auroras occur in both hemispheres, and the aurora in the northern hemisphere is called the aurora borealis, or northern lights.
The aurora borealis gets its name from the mythical Roman goddess of the dawn, and is prevalent in folklore and myth, especially among the Inuit people who live in the high, northern latitudes. One myth says that the aurora borealis is past ancestors, while another myth says that the aurora borealis is telling stories of what happened in the past and what will happen in the future.
The best place to see the Northern lights is In the Northern parts of Norway - the coastal areas from Troms and Finnmark. The best chances to see the aurora borealis is between November and April, when there is limited amount of daylight.
There are many adventurous ways to go in the hope of encountering the fabled Northern Lights. We cannot guarantee that you'll see this spectacular natural phenomenon, of course, but you'll certainly have every chance of an unforgettable encounter.

Your fascinating journey commences in Tromsø, with a leisurely voyage north for a chance to see the magical Northern Lights.
Day 1 Tromsø
Fly into Tromsø, the "Paris of the North" and transfer to the ship.
Day 2 Hammerfest-Havoysund- Honningsvag-Kjollefjord-Mehamn- Berlevag
Enjoy the voyage north sailing into Honningsvåg where you can join an excursion to mainland Europe's most northerly point, the North Cape.
After calling at Honningsvåg, the ship heads east towards the pretty fishing villages of Kjøllefjord, Mehamn and Berlevåg.
Day 3 Kirkenes Snow HotelOn the third day, you arrive at Kirkenes, just a few kilometres from the Russian border and the Sami communities of Northern Finland and join optional excursions here before your overnight stay in a stylish ice room in the Snow Hotel.
Day 4 Kirkenes
Transfer from the Snow Hotel to your Kirkenes Hotel.
Enjoy your day in exploring Kirkenes and taking part in optional excursions.
Day 5 Kirkenes-Vardo-Batsfjord-Berlevag
Rejoin the ship for the southbound voyage, calling during the day at ports passed at night on the trip northward.
Crossing Varangerfjord, Norway's only east-facing fjord and a fabled bird-watching site, you'll arrive in Vardo, the easternmost point of the country. Next the ship will round the Varanger peninsula, where archaeologists excavated a community believed to date from 9000 BC. In the evening, the ship calls at Batsfjord, which also boasts the remains of a Stone Age settlement, and Berlevag. Look out for the Tanahorn mountain, which long ago was a Sami sacrifice site.
Day 6-7 Honningsvag-Havoysund-Hammerfest-Oksfjord-Skjervoy-Tromsø
The ship arrives at Honningsvag in the early morning, stopping for 1 1/2 hours in Hammerfest, the world's most northerly town having also called at Havoysund. Hammerfest despite its remote location, was the first Norwegian town to have electric street lighting and its own power station.
Heading south to Øksfjord, glaciers calves directly into the sea and after crossing open water, the ship calls at the old trading post of Skjervøy. You will dock in Tromsø late evening and transfer to a centrally located hotel for two nights and you will also have the opportunity to take part in some thrilling excursions.
Day 8 Tromsø
Transfer to your airport for your flight home.

Your journey begins at the same latitude as Siberia and Alaska, where the influence of the Gulf Stream creates the longest ice-free polar coast.
Day 1 Tromsø
Arrive in Tromsø, the "Paris of the North" and transfer to a hotel for dinner. Depending on flight times you can enjoy a range of optional excursions before boarding the ship at midnight.

Day 2 Harstad-Risoyhamn-Sortland- Stokmarknes-Svolvaer-Stamsund
Keeping your eyes open for the magical Northern Lights, the ship navigates through inlets and channels of Norway's cool waters.
Jagged snow-clad peaks rise sharply from the sea and soon you reach the beautiful islands of Lofoten. This chain of islands is 120km long and home to the fishing communities which have helped to make Norway famous as a sea-faring nation. Painted boathouses line the harbours as you pass deserted beaches and fjords.
The Lofoten and Vesteralen Islands have some of the most stunning scenery on this journey. Before your arrival, you will see the captain skilfully manoeuvre the ship through the shallow waters of the Risoyrenna Channel, where sand banks are visible through the green water on both sides of the channel, before arriving in Svolvær and Stamsund. Later, the ship heads east across Vestfjord toward Bodo.
Day 3 Ornes-Nesna-Sandnessjoen- Bronnoysund-Rorvik
From Ørnes, you will travel through crystalline waters, filled with spawning cod from January to April, and go by lush agricultural fields. Nearly every towering peak you see is associated with a local legend.
Crossing the Arctic Circle once again, you will pass the idyllic island of Sandnessjøen. On the approach to Brønnøysund, which you reach this afternoon you will see the mythical Seven Sisters Mountains.
Make sure you're on deck when the ship departs Brønnøysund, and you'll be impressed by the captain's steady hand! Today's last port of call will be Rørvik where there is a chance to enjoy the award-winning maritime museum (Breakfast, Dinner).
Day 4 Trondheim
Your journey is completed in the Viking capital of Norway, Trondheim. Did you know that the first Viking sale of goods from "the new found land" took place here about 1000 AD? Timber from Leiv Eriksson's Vinland estate was sold to a Bremen merchant. Walk the charming streets, sit by the peaceful harbour, or cross the old city bridge to see the restored wooden buildings in Bakklandet and the great gothic cathedral of Nidaros, where the new kings of old Norway once received their official blessing.
A tour of the city with its fine examples of medieval and impressive wooden architecture is included (selected departures only) which passes the 18th century Stiftsgården Palace and the magnificent 14th century Nidaros Cathedral, considered one of the grandest Gothic buildings in northern Europe (Breakfast).
Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
Today's last port of call will be Rørvik where there is a chance to enjoy the award-winning maritime museum (Breakfast, Dinner).
